Canon Character Information
Appearance: Duo is small for a kid his age. Living on the streets as a child with only other children to help you survive often leads to malnourishment, which means children don’t grow like they should. It would be easy to mistake him for a child much younger than he is (or is assumed to be, really).
He might also be mistaken for a girl at first, no thanks to his extremely long hair. A sort of chestnut-brown in color, his hair is often kept in a neat braid. Well, as neat as an 8-year-old can braid anyway. He is also seen wearing a cassock of the Catholic church variety, with matching slippers, and a black cap that he likes to use to hide his blue-violet eyes.

History: History of one, Duo Maxwell Note: The first few paragraphs of the history section pertain to 8-year-old Duo Maxwell. The rest of the history section focuses on when he’s older and becomes the pilot of the Gundam Deathscythe (And Frozen Teardrop, but….yeah, we’ll not talk about Frozen Teardrop).

Unfortunately, anything prior to the Episode Zero stuff is very vague. We don’t know how old Duo really is, who his birth parents were, exactly when he was picked up by Solo and his gang, or what he even went by until he chose his name. We do know that the colony he lived on had been ravaged by an epidemic that took out a good chunk of the population, and that some of Duo’s gang, including Solo, had died from it. He had attempted to get a vaccine for Solo, and had succeeded in getting his hands on some, but he was too late to save his friend and mentor. As well, it’s not really know how long Duo was in charge of the kids after Solo died before everyone was shipped to the orphanage/church.

Personality: How would you describe your average 8-year old? Talkative? Curious? Independent? How about brash? Opinionated? Hellion? With Duo Maxwell, you don’t get “average”; after all, when you are not raised in your typical home, you can’t expect to turn out what most of society has dubbed as average, normal, ordinary.

Duo isn’t an easy child to get along with. He holds little trust for people, especially those who he deems as “adults”, or who are very militaristic in his eyes. Having grown up on the streets of the American space colony L2-V08744, the adults he interacted with mostly just seemed to treat him as more of a pest than an actual person or a child with more problems than they could imagine. The United Earth Sphere Alliance (the government of Earth) had a stranglehold on the colony and he saw them, and anyone who fought in the war, as the sole reason why he was an orphan in the first place. Even the people who ran the market stalls he stole from seemed more willing to punish than to understand. He could never really bring himself to trust anyone who didn’t want him around, and bouncing around the foster care system didn’t seem to help that develop that trust.

Of course, he doesn’t necessarily make it easy for people to like him. He is rather unruly and hard to reason with, perhaps because he never had anyone other than Solo, another orphan who Duo idolized, teach him manners or how to keep his mouth shut. He was taught things like how to survive and not rely on anyone else instead, not that he minded. Duo has no problem telling people what’s on his mind because to him, lying is worse than most crimes. He hates being lied to, and one will not find him lying at all. He may twist his words, but he always speaks the truth. Call him a liar, and you might find one angry little street rat attacking you. He’s bullheaded, stubborn. Once he gets an idea in his head, it’s hard to get him to change his mind. After all, he attempted to raid an Alliance warehouse with only the remaining members of the gang. He failed in his attempt, however (thankfully no one was hurt), but just goes to show how single-minded he can be.

There are exceptions to every rule, even Duo’s own “don’t trust adults” rule. For this case, there are two exceptions, and they went by Sister Helen and Father Maxwell. They were the nun and priest who ran the Maxwell Church, and readily accepted him despite his rather abrasive attitude. They were the first adults to fully accept Duo as he was instead of trying to change him. They gave him a chance to fully explain his reasoning behind certain things, and actually tried to understand him, like when Duo put those children in the hospital. Instead of punishing him, Sister Helen asked what had happened to cause Duo to attack them, knowing that it took little to set Duo off. They managed to earn his trust, and in turn, earned a very loyal and loving Duo who never trusted adults before. He wanted to protect them and keep them close, going so far as to steal a mobile suit if it meant that the fighting would leave their little corner of peace in a war-torn world.

It’s near impossible to reach the levels of trust that Duo had for Father Maxwell and Sister Helen, but anyone who can get passed Duo’s barriers and shields will have a fierce and loyal friend. However, he closes himself off from actually caring about people after losing so much in his life. Not only that, but he feels that it’s his fault that those he cares about die. When Solo died from the plague, it was because he wasn’t fast enough with the medicine to make him better. The person who took care of him from the beginning, who taught him everything he knew and was the first person to really show a positive interest in him died for being too close. Father and Sister loved him dearly despite his unruly behavior, and they, too, died because the Alliance wanted to punish him for stealing the mobile suit. Is any of this true? No: Solo would have died even if he got the injection because he was too far gone to be saved, and the Alliance was strictly after the rebels who took refuge in the Maxwell Church. However, Duo believes it to be his fault and holds that guilt with him. That is why he chose the name he did. Duo in memory of Solo, and Maxwell for the only home he truly ever knew.

Powers/Abilities/Talents: To survive on the streets, Duo’s had to develop a certain set of skills. He’s learned how to move around with little to no sound, otherwise it’d be easy for someone to catch him. He can pick locks, pick pockets, and steal without folks realizing it until it’s too late. He can adapt to his surroundings rather quick, but only because it usually meant dying. And while he’s not as knowledgeable with technology as he is later on in the Gundam Wing series, he still can figure things out for himself fast like.

AU/CR AU Addendum: N/A

What 4 items would you like your character too have with them on the island during their stay? 1) A gold cross on a chain.
2) The brush used by Sister Helen, charred and damaged by fire.
3) A piece of wire (a stripped bobby pin, essentially) kept hidden in his braid.
4) A rosary that could have belonged to Father Maxwell.

First Person: [When the comms open up, the first thing seen is a circle of a blue/purple color. Hm...that's weird. Since when did--

The circle moves away and in its place is a small child. So the circle was his eye. And said child doesn't look all that happy. Not quite furious, but still very huffy.
]

This place is weird. The people are weird. I know adults don't usually act this cheery, 'less they want somethin' from ya.

[The child exhales, causing his chestnut-brown bangs to rise and then fall back into place. When he speaks again, it's more to himself than to the community at large.]

Maybe they're gonna take this all away. Or they'll just send me back. Wouldn't be the first time.

[Shaking his head, the bitty looks back at the comm in his hands.]

Guess I'll just take advantage of this while I can. Least s'better than a cell.

[Without so much as explaining himself, or introducing himself, the child shuts off his end of the comm. Well, hello to you, too, grumpy thing.]
Third Person: Test Drive Meme

Finally, out of the 4 words, pick one: Chimes, lake, gravel, or sun Chimes. They remind Duo of the church that had been his home.
